AFC Angel are a Chesterfield based amatuer football club currently playing our trade in the Chesterfield and district Sunday league. We were first admitted to the league in 2003 as Slug and Fiddle Football Club, playing out of the town centre pub. Despite still being just three seasons old, since the club has been formed, plenty has gone off.

In our first season we were admitted as a division 5 club playing on Somersall Park but struggled in a tough division with a bare bones squad to say the least. The men behind the club, Jonno Smith and Rich Bardsley, were left to build the club up from scratch, and a host of fund raising events alongside general pestering for money meant the club scraped through their first season managing to get in all the neccessary equipment. Unfortunately on the pitch things were not so rosy, and relegation occured... no surprise really when some weeks we were having to play with nine men.

Into our second season in division 8, and with Rich Bardsley now having moved away due to work, new club secretary and manager Jonno Smith aimed to steady the ship. A new look squad was able to gain a decent finish of 5th in the league along with a run to the cup quarter finals.

Our third season saw most of the same squad that had done well the previous year, along with a fresh batch of new faces. Despite losing several players through injury during the season, the club still managed to progress well and ended the season in the third and final promotion spot. Competition for places was healthy, and the club even managed to net 12 goals in one match on two seperate occasions during the season!

Into the fourth season, and a move to New Whittington pub the Angel saw us rename as AFC Angel. A reshape of the clubs committee and management saw a more solid base, and without doubt our most eventful season saw us just miss out on promotion from division 7. A cup quarter final appearance was slightly disappointing, but Angel made up for it as they got all the way to the final of the Powerade Cup at Selhurst Park, although eventually losing out on penalties in a tournament we richly deserved to win.

Our fifth season is now just around the corner... and hopefully Angel will be able to build on the progress made over the past few years and progress even further up the Chesterfield Sunday League ladder.
